One of the best events in ISM occurred this past week-- the business symposium. Although it wasn’t in person like usual, I had the opportunity to talk to a professional online and discuss my topic with them as well as learn more about their field of business.
For my interview, I was interviewed by a woman who was in the medical field and who studied biology in college. She began by asking me how I chose my topic and what my plans were in the future. I gladly discussed with her why I chose facial plastic surgery and my plans for ISM II in regards to learning more about facial aesthetics and certain surgical procedures. Something new that I learned from our interview was the fact that even though she majored in biology in college, she was actually involved in the medical sales aspect of the career field. This was really interesting for me to see because it proved that majoring in biology can lead to a broad depth of future careers that aren’t limited to just a single sect of medicine.
Furthermore, after learning that she majored in biology, I began to ask her how her experience was as a biology major. She told me how she felt as though it prepared her well for her future and that she learned a lot from her journey throughout college. After hearing about her perspective, I became more confident and secure in my future goals of majoring in biology and hopefully succeeding in the major as well. Next week, I have another visit with Dr. Cain where I hope to see more procedures that relate towards my original work. I’m excited to research more about the nose and all that it entails so that I can learn even more about its implications in order to produce a meaningful original work!
