In ISM this past week, I had the chance to go on a mentor visit after not having the ability to go to the office for a couple of weeks.

Luckily, when I visited the office, I had the opportunity to view the most dermal filler treatments I had ever seen at a time. I got the chance to view three dermal filler procedures in addition to Botox treatments that were in relatively the same area for each patient.

Seeing Dr. Cain perform these filler treatments taught me a lot about how a plastic surgeon injects in these areas as well as the precision that is necessary in order to make sure that the patient gets the desired result. Each patient had done Botox and dermal filler treatment before but each had some varying level of degree in the amount that they had gotten. I saw a recurring trend that a patient that had more treatments had a more difficult time raising their eyebrows and producing movement in their face. I also saw how different patients have different tolerance levels for the fillers. The first patient I witnessed became a little sick from the dermal filler in the tear trough area whereas other patients had no similar issues. This experience only validated the fact that each patient will have different reactions to fillers and that it is up to the plastic surgeon to determine how to manage certain complications and reactions.

Overall, I loved getting to see all of these procedures and I am excited to see what else I will get to witness on my future mentor visits!
