After not being able to attend mentor visits for the past couple of weeks, I decided to delve deeper into my research in order to learn more about the specific aspects of the surgical rhinoplasty procedure and the basics. As a result, I completed a research assessment using a chapter from a book that Dr. Cain printed out for me to use.

The chapter was about different incisions, approaches, and the analysis that goes into surgical rhinoplasty and how plastic surgeons utilize these techniques in order to create the best possible experience and enhancement for the patient. The article was a great resource for me to use in order to learn more about the specific parts of the nose.

The image in the article discussed the trichion, glabella, nasion, rhinion, supratip, and the tip. I could clearly see which areas of the nose corresponded to which term which will help me tremendously for my origins work where I have to create the major nose structures in a visually accurate manner. Furthermore, the article reiterated the proportions that are related to the nasofacial, nasolabial, and nasofrontal angles and the typical numerical value that is ideal for both males and females. One of the most interesting things about facial analysis is the implication of numbers with facial features and symmetry. By creating a standard measurement, physicians can compare and analyze different noses and proportions in order to create the ideal nose for each patient.

As a whole, learning the terminology associated with rhinoplasty is going to help me in my development of my original work while also aiding in my future endeavors both in the office and through my continued research.
