This past week in ISM, I had the opportunity to go on a mentor visit and observe multiple procedures, including the lip lift.
I was really excited to have my first visit with Dr. Cain in person. I discussed with him all of my goals and what I wanted to achieve in the class in regards to new learning experiences, more observations, and the specific topics I wanted to delve deeper into. When talking with Dr. Cain, he mentioned how he could give me a few chapters of his books about specific subjects like the nonsurgical rhinoplasty, face lift, and lip lift. Through learning from professional sources, I know I’ll be able to gain the most insightful information that will guide my research in the right direction.
Luckily, during my mentor visit, Dr. Cain mentioned how there was a lip lift surgery occuring in the OR room and I had the ability to witness Dr. Richardson perform a lip lift. In addition to the lip lift, the patient also had liposuction, lower lift blepharoplasty, and a face lift. Dr. Richardon also mentioned that he injected fat into the patient’s nasolabial folds in order to add a more youthful look. This specific procedure was something new that I had not witnessed before so it was extremely helpful to view the various ways that a physician implements procedures in order to enhance the physical appearance of the patient.
After viewing the procedure, I also saw the way Dr. Richardon sutured the patient and took note of the specific movements, anesthesia, and stitches he utilized. Seeing him work so diligently reinforced my preconceived notion about the importance of a physician’s efficiency in surgery. Furthermore, getting the opportunity to view a surgery during my mentor visit allowed me to gain more ideas and understand new procedures that I had never seen before. Through this experience, I am positive that I will be able to expand my research in regards to lip lifts, face lifts, and additional surgical operations in order to create an innovative original work.
