During the Thanksgiving break, I made substantial progress on my original work. After gathering all of my clay materials, articles, and video resources, I created four visual models of different nose types that will be incorporated into my original work.
I first created the ideal nose type by sculpting a nine by eight inch base and by watching a video on how to sculpt a nose. I ensured that the base of the nose resembled an equilateral triangle based on my understanding from an introductory facial proportion article that Dr. Cain gave me. My next nose type was a nasal dorsal hump which is a common nose deformity. I made sure that the dorsum was visible and protruded from the nose. The third nose was a crooked nose and I created an C-Shaped curve where the septum deviated to the left. I also created a nose with a droopy tip so that I could demonstrate how to alter that nasal deformity as well through nonsurgical means.
After creating all of my nose visuals, I gained a greater understanding of not only facial features, but also about the structure and importance of accurate facial proportions. The creation of these clay visuals allowed me to delve deeper into the anatomy of the nose and to see how minimizing or enlarging certain parts of the nose affects the overall appearance for a patient. I still need to complete the exact representation of how to alter each nose, but I am confident that I will be able to effectively finish and learn more about nonsurgical rhinoplasty and nasal aesthetics through the completion of my original work.
